5 Actors Play 25 Roles in our next production!
by Sheila Coultish
In 2005, two Yorkshiremen, Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon, came up with the fiendishly brilliant idea of taking the basic story of John Buchan's classic novel The 39 Steps and adapting it into a witty, clever comedy for the stage. It is 1935, our hero Richard Hannay, through a series of events, finds himself involved in a spy ring. During the course of the play he travels from London to Scotland in search of answers that are vital to Britain's air defense. Along the way he encounters 2 underwear salesmen, a Scottish crofter and his lovely wife, crazy hotel owners, the police, a sheriff, an evil professor and his hired help, and more. Does he succeed in saving Britain from impending disaster? Does this all take place on a stage? To find out come and see our next show with local actor Wes Lazaroff playing Richard. Also in the cast is Bronwyn McNeil, Ivana Ho, Derek Carter and new member Darien Edgeler. The challenge in this play is not only do 5 actors play 25 roles, but the technical requirements are equally demanding. Lights, sound, costumes, special effects, all contribute to making this show a madcap roller coaster ride that is sure to please every audience member. Opening on February 20, the show runs at 8 PM Wednesdays to Saturdays until March 9 with matinees at 2 PM on February 24th and March 3rd. Tickets are $16 for Wednesdays, Thursdays and matinees - $18 on Fridays and Saturdays and are available by calling 250-758-7224 or go on-line at www.nanaimotheatregroup.com.
